Because of the engineer's role of survivability, all engineers of all factions should have the ability to make basic green cover. This can force infantry to take up time from the tasks they're intended to do (like capturing, defending, or recon) in order to make fighting positions while engineers are sent to face stronger units. In CoH2, not all engineer units have the ability to make sandbags or green cover. Engineers in Company of Heroes should be standardised to effectively provide uses for all parts of the battle. As a forward, Army engineers have three main tasks - enabling mobility for friendly forces (think repairing a bridge), countermobility for enemy forces (erecting barbed wire, mines, tank traps), and increasing the survivability of friendly forces (sandbags and fighting positions). I'm an engineer in the Army, so I'm going to try and provide some real-world reasons why engineer units need some of these changes. But there are a couple of changes that we should see to keep them more relevant in the game. We like to say that engineers are the "swiss army knife" of the Army, but it's also true in this game, being cheap to produce, generally upgradable with a flamethrower, and with building and repair abilities. I'd like to make a post about my favourite unit type from (almost) all factions in every Company of Heroes game - the engineers. ![]()
